Located 1.1km from the hypocenter, this Japanese chinquapin stands in a backstreet of Nagasaki City's Aburagi-machi. Firmly rooted on a slope next to a sword-leaf litsea and ring-cup oak, the tree produces a large canopy.

Damage to the roots is visible, but as is the case with the nearby sword-leaf litsea the tree is flourishing and is considered to have grown to the limits of the space available in its present location.
